Brief History of
Youthlink Wales

In 1985, the government asked young people for their opinion on how to prevent drug abuse in Wales.
Young people said that it must be done in a way that most young people would under and respect. Ideally, they said, young people themselves should do it.

The government agreed with this, and as an experiment, they helped those young people to set up their own organisation that would educate young people about drug abuse.

The young people called their new organisation "Youthlink Wales".
In 1992, Youthlink Wales became a registered charity and started educating young people on other issues as well as drug abuse, like sexual health, mental health etc.

Today, Youthlink Wales is still owned and run by young people who want to make "safer choice".
Youthlink Wales does not believe in telling young people what to do, but we do give young people facts about issues, encourage young people to talk about issues and share their attitude and opinions with each other.
